Reginald Powell, 54, remains in Westchester County Jail two months after he waived his felony hearing in Mamaroneck Village court on Jan. 6.
According to Westchester District Attorney Spokesperson Lucian Chalfen, Powell is being held on a burglary charge and parole violation warrant.
Powell, who remains a suspect in the slaying of Mamaroneck resident Jennifer Katz, was caught with Katz’s car and some of her jewelry the night of Dec. 30, when Katz was found murdered in her Baldwin Place home.
In October 2008, Powell was paroled after serving 25 ½ years of a murder sentence for a crime he committed in 1982. Several members of Powell’s family, including his brother, Bishop Wayne Powell of Strait Gate Church in Mamaroneck and his wife at the time, petitioned for his release.
Katz’s homicide investigation is “open and active” according to Chalfen.
