Mam'k Mother Indicted on Murder Charge

The Mamaroneck mother charged with her 4-year-old son's murder was indicted on second-degree murder by a Westchester Grand Jury last week, said Lucian Chalfen, a spokesperson for the Westchester County's District Attorney's office.

Morgado, 46, will appear in front of Judge Warhit on Dec. 18 at 9:30 a.m. in Westchester County Court, said Bobbi Jo, a clerk in the court's criminal calendar office.

The grim and graphic details of the murder were recounted in an Oct. 17 arraignment in Village of Mamaroneck court, in which Det. Bernard McNally—who intially responded to the scene of the crime—recounted what Morgado said to him hours after she was removed from the condo and taken to the hospital. It was believed to have been an attempted suicide and murder.

Morgado injected her son Jason Reish with a combination of Benedryl and other cold medications in an attempt to sedate him before putting a helium mask over his face.  When those attempts were unsuccessful, she cupped his nose and mouth with her hand while laying on top of him.

Village of Mamaroneck Judge Christie Derrico determined that there was sufficent cause to continue to hold Morgado at Westchester County Jail, where she remains.

Morgado was battling Jason's father, Dr. Timothy Reish, over where Jason would attend school, and was frustrated that no one appeared to be taking her needs into consideration.

While still at the scene of the crime, testified McNally, Morgado said, "Now no one will take him from me."
