Spotting the New Van Gogh? Talented Young Artists on Display at M'mk Artists' Guild

The Mamaroneck Artists' Guild in Larchmont will display the winners of the "Young Artists on the Rise" show beginning Jan. 30.

In 2012, the Huffington Post spotlighted 10 "art prodigies," some of whom were barely out of diapers before they sold a painting or had an exhibition.

Although these art world anomalies are not the norm, many artists have shown great promise at a relatively young age.

This year, as they have done in years past, the Mamaroneck Artists Guild (MAG) will spotlight the work of promising young artists from Mamaroneck High School, the French-American School of New York and New Rochelle High School in the "Young Artists on the Rise" show beginning Jan. 30 through Feb. 9.

Student works are selected by their art teachers for entry into the show, which includes six categories: painting, ceramics, photography, drawing, mixed media, and sculpture. MAG members—juried artists who volunteer time to the organization—will determine the winners.

MAG is a 58-year old artists’ co-operative organization that began in Mamaroneck, and currently maintains a gallery on Larchmont Avenue. There is an ongoing roster of shows in which member's works are displayed throughout the year.

Members of the public are invited to attend a reception for "Young Artists on the Rise" on Feb. 6 from 6-7 p.m. at MAG, in which the artists and their teachers will be in attendance.  MAG gallery hours are Tuesday-Saturday noon to 5 p.m.
