YARN TASTING EVENT AT MAMARONECK INDOOR FARMERS MARKET

The Mamaroneck Indoor Farmers Market will host a "Yarn Tasting" for fiber enthusiasts on Saturday, May 14, 2011.  Based on a traditional dinner party menu, there will be several courses of yarn to "taste" by knitting or crocheting a swatch.  Yarns have been provided by Catskill Merino Sheep Farm; Faraway Farm Alpacas; Great Adirondack Yarns, courtesy of Flying Fingers; and Maupston Design Studio among others.   While the event is FREE, space is limited and can be reserved by calling 914 923-4837 or emailing: frowland@communitymarkets.biz, all participants must BYON (bring your own needles). There will also be opportunities for all needle workers, spinners or otherwise fiber intrigued folks to try some farm fresh local food, shop from several fiber vendors, share tips or just mingle. The tasting will run from 9:30am to 11:30am, outside rain or shine, at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church located at 168 West Boston Post Rd.  Faraway Farm Alpacas from Yorktown Heights and Flying Fingers from Tarrytown, NY will be a couple of the special day vendors to set-up shop for the length of the market from 9am-1pm featuring NY produced yarns, rovings and finished items.  There will be an optional "field trip" on the one-of-a-kind yarn bus to Flying Fingers from 11:30am-1pm.

"Needlework forces those who practice it to slow down and take a break from the rush of everyday tasks, this is the same principal that we aim to integrate in our markets overall," Miriam Haas, Community Markets Founder stated...  "we create an ideal place for communities to come together, slow down and celebrate the local food system!"
