Save the Dates: Fall Fun and Fundraising in Larchmont

The fall fundraising season will be in full swing shortly.

Fall means back to school and a boatload of activities for many people in our communities. But it’s not all kid-centered; the cooler air brings a list of options for everyone in the Sound Shore area. Before you get caught up in the whirlwind, mark your calendar and plan to attend these three events for fun and fundraising.

Four Juniors; Molly and Sarah Cohn, Laura Gardiner and Charlotte Rieder have banded together to form a team to participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer on Oct. 21 and 22. They will walk 39 miles, sleep in pink tents and raise money as a team Waging War on Cancer (WWOC). Each participant pledges to raise $1,800 to walk and then the group is on their way. In addition to individual efforts, WWOC will benefit from September and October events.

Tag Sale for The Girls: Saturday, Sept. 8

On Saturday, Sept. 8 stop by the "Tag Sale for the Girls" where all proceeds from purchases will go to support the team. From 9 a.m. to noon, you will find bargains, snacks and lemonade at 5 Harmony Dr. in Larchmont. The sale will include household items, decorative things, books and other surprises. If you have some high quality stuff ready to be sold, send an email to maryrebeccaavonwalk@gmail.com for instructions.

Items will be priced from $1 to $20 and, sorry, no negotiating. Every dollar goes to the Avon Walk to fund prevention, care, research and services in the New York area. Checks will be gladly accepted with receipts for a tax deductible donation provided.

Join the War Effort and Shop at Pink On Palmer: Sunday, Sept. 9

The war effort against breast cancer continues when Pink on Palmer opens on Sunday, Sept. 9 with special shopping hours between noon and 4 p.m. owner Judy Graham will be donating 10 percent of all of the purchases made on this day to the WWOC Avon Breast Cancer Walk team. Pink on Palmer is located at 1907 Palmer Ave. in Larchmont, on the corner of Palmer and Chatsworth Avenues.

Oktoberfest 2012: Sunday, Oct. 7

It’s back! Oktoberfest will take over Larchmont Avenue between Addison Street and the Boston Post Road on Sunday, Oct. 7.  Sponsors like , and have fabulous activities planned for all ages to enjoy between 1-9 p.m. No need to cook lunch or dinner, there will be plenty of food available at the event. The WWOC team will be there to help out and, thanks to the sponsors, sell raffle tickets for prizes from Larchmont businesses.

Auray Gourmet co-owner Ben Aiello is looking forward to this year’s Oktoberfest: “It’s exciting to be able to expand the event to bring even more people together to share great food, fun and the spirit that makes the area a great place to live.”
