Mamaroneck Village Warns Residents of Possible Snowstorm

A winter storm watch has issued by the National Weather Service.

From the Village of Mamaroneck:

The National Weather Service and other weather forecasting services are predicting possible major snowfall amounts on Thursday and Friday, January 2 and 3, 2014, for the New York Metropolitan area, including Westchester County and the Village of Mamaroneck.

At this point, there is variance between models, with snowfalls predicted between 3" and 6" of snow, and alternate snowfall scenarios of 4" to 12" of snow, or even blizzard conditions.

However, regardless of how much snow our area receives, the snowfall will be complicated by extremely cold temperatures that are predicted to drop down between zero and six degrees (0 - 6 degrees) Fahrenheit by Fridaynight.

Since temperatures are predicted at this time to drop to 16 degrees Fahrenheit Thursday night, 19 degrees Fahrenheit on Friday during the day, and 6 degrees Fahrenheit or colder on Friday night, snow removal and ice control measures on roads and sidewalks will be severely limited.

Since the lowest temperatures are about twenty (20) degrees at which road salt is effective to melt snow and ice, roads at times may become icy and slick, travel will become limited, and schools and other organizations likey will experiencing closings.

Please plan ahead and be prepared in case of the predicted weather results in heavier snowfalls and colder temperatures.
