Mamaroneck Manager: Boston Post Road Construction Might Take Longer

The village wants to get construction finished that is near an elementary school before the students return.

The drainage construction project in the Village of Mamaroneck will continue at night this week, possibly extending into the weekend.

In an email, Village Manager Richard Slingerland said that the project—laying new drainage pipe up Barry Avenue and across Boston Post Road—has been slowed by substantial rock deposits that have to be drilled and split in order for the drainage pipe to be laid.

"These measures are also necessary to protect existing Con Edison and [Westchester Joint Water Works] utilities in the area," he said, some of which were not known to exist based on Con Edison maps and information provided in advance of construction."

Night construction work will resume at 7 p.m. Monday, August 19 and will continue through Friday. Overnight work will end at 5 a.m.

Slingerland said that, if the work does not complete the path across Boston Post Road by the end of Friday's schedule work, then more night work will be necessary and will continue Monday, August 26.

Additional construction may be necessary, he said, the weekend of August 24 and 25 to ensure construction in the vicinity of Bellows Elementary School is done before the start of school.

South Barry Avenue is almost done, Slingerland said, and it will be milled and resurfaced next week.

During the day, all lanes of traffic on Boston Post Road will be open. During the evening and overnight construction work, it will be open but there will be traffic back-ups due to lane closures.
