At Home on the Sound presents: “A Hidden Child’s Journey Home”

At Home on the Sound presents:

Author Evi Blaikie
will discuss her amazing and often harrowing life story as one of the hidden
children of World War II.

Evi was born in Paris to Hungarian Jewish immigrant
parents less than a year before the outbreak of the war. When the Germans
overran Paris in 1940, Evi’s father went underground; her mother was sent to a
slave labor camp. So as a very small child, Evi was shuttled between relative’s
homes, an orphanage, foster homes, and a convent.  Her life continued on its untethered course as
she attended university in Vienna, then worked in Caracas, Venezuela, and finally
immigrated to the United States.

In 1991, at the first International Conference
of the Hidden Child, Evi finally reconnected with her past and started writing
down the memories of her childhood. With another Hidden Child, she co-founded
the Hungarian Hidden Children, a group that still meets once a month. Magda's
Daughter: A Hidden Child's Journey Home
, is her first full length work. This program is free and open to the
public. Refreshments at 3:30; program 4:00.
