LEGO-Fest Raises Money for Larchmont Library [PHOTOS]

Friends of the Larchmont Public Library put the "Fun" in fundraiser.

Children of all ages came to the Village Center at the Larchmont Public Library to view a 300 square foot LEGO display Saturday and help to raise funds for the library at the same time.

Local sponsors joined with the Friends of the Larchmont Public Library to host the event which included a 30-foot-by-10-foot city display built entirely from LEGO pieces including an airport, farm, downtown and a running railroad.

The event also featured "Seek and Find" challenges for kids and raffles with LEGO sets as prizes. The display was built by I LUG NY, an adult club of LEGO fans with members from across the New York Metro area.

The Larchmont Public Library serves, and is supported by, the residents of both the Village of Larchmont and the Town of Mamaroneck. Thus it is not the "Village Library."

Ralph Engel, a loyal Friend of the Library, careful lawyer, and long-time Village, now-Town resident, raises an interesting question about whether the Larchmont Public Library may be accurately referred to as "the Village Library." It is true that any resident of, or person who works in, the Village of Larchmont or Town of Mamaroneck may obtain a Library card, and that the Town contributes to the funding of the Library, in proportion to Town residents/workers usage. In that sense the Library is as much a Town as Village Insitution. On the other hand, the Library is located physically in the Village andwas established by the Village on land donated by a Village resident. The question may turn on whether the Library's Board of Trustees is appointed esclusively by the Village Board of Trustees or has members appointed by the Town. The Library's website doesn't disclose the answer to this question, but perhaps it will be forthcoming in response to this post. Stan Futterman

Hi, Thanks for your input on this. For the sake of clarity, I have changed the title to "Larchmont Library," given that residents of both the Village of Larchmont and the Town of Mamaroneck utilize the library. Best, Stefani
