Mamaroneck Schools to Hold Community Conversation

There is reading material to prepare for the event.

The Mamaroneck Union Free School District wants to hear from community members.

The district is holding a community conversation at 7:30 p.m. Monday, October 28 in the Hommocks Middle School library, 130 Hommocks Rd., Larchmont.

Dr. Robert Shaps, superintendent of schools, said the board and administration held a retreat during the summer and identified five areas for continuous improvement.

They are student engagement, school climate, learning experience, college and career readiness and community engagement.

"In addition to focusing on these areas for continuous improvement," Shaps said, "we brainstormed ways to further extend the conversation to involve a broader audience—parents, students, teachers an community members at large."

To prepare for the meeting—there always seems to be homework—the district has compiled some articles and resources to shed light on the five areas. Click here to go to the District's Web site.

Shaps said the plan for the meeting is to have every participant in discussion groups around two of the five areas.
