Weaver Street Bridge Closing in June For Repairs; Pedestrian Access to Remain

Larchmont and Town of Mamaroneck residents who drive over the Weaver Street Bridge en route to Mamaroneck will need to plan an alternative route in the weeks ahead.

The bridge over I-95—located on Weaver Street and Harmon Drive—will be closed for repairs by the NY State Department of Transportation (DOT) on or about June 3, according to a joint notice from the Town of Mamaroneck and the Mamaroneck School District posted on the town's website. The project is expected to continue through July 24.

According to the notice, both the district and town petitioned the DOT to include a pedestrian walkway in order to minimize disruptions for students walking home from school; the walkway will be available through June 23.

Both the town and the district consider the plan a work in progress though.

"While we are pleased that the NYSDOT has accommodated our request to maintain pedestrian access through the remainder of the school year, we plan to study all issues related to the impact of this project, including increased traffic on alternative routes, acknowledgement of the extra time required for students to get to school, redesign of bus transportation routes (e.g. pick-up and drop-off times) and all other related safety issues," the notice said.

Detours are expected to reroute drivers over the Rockland Avenue and Chatsworth Avenue Bridges.

Editor's Note: An earlier version of this article indicated that construction on the Weaver Street Bridge would be completed June 24; it is actually July 24.
