I am a junior at the University of Miami in Florida, otherwise known as the U. 

Yet, up until I graduated from Mamaroneck High School in 2009, L-mont and Mamk were the only places I considered home. My dad, has lived here his whole life and owns a local business.

It was nice of them to let me go to school in Miami. Maybe it was the incentive that visiting me equates a luxury vacation.

Do the images from hip-hop music videos scare parents from sending their kids to UMiami? I am one of only two MHS grads currently enrolled.

Sure there are bouncing boats, fizzing champagne bottles and dazzling nightclubs, but the culture is rich and diverse beyond the beach and party scene.

With a motivated and conscientious attitude, a UMiami student can really benefit from what the school offers, especially when involved in extracurriculars. My experiences as an assistant news editor for the school newspaper, a member of the Alpha Delta Pi sorority and on the crew for UMTV have been some of the best parts about college.

My majors are broadcast journalism and anthropology. I explore my surroundings, observe all the happenings and learn something new everyday. I also have studied Mandarin Chinese since seventh grade. Eventually, I hope to become fluent in the language.
