Tarry Wine: Old-World Vintages Come to Port Chester

"Alla Salute" Chef Hailee Moore knows wine can be intimidating, but the staff at Tarry Wine makes her feel at home with old world wines.

Recently, Port Chester's version of the butcher, the baker, and the fresh pasta maker arrived with newcomer Tarry Market neighbored next to its mothership, Tarry Lodge. Situated on the other side of the market is the two-week-old Tarry Wine.  Can this corner (Mill Street and North Main) get anymore fun?  Once inside, patrons are enthusiastically invited to taste the wines as they peruse the store. (At Tarry Wine, the tasting involves an actual wine glass vs. the small plastic cups favored by some other shops.) While I walked through the store, a trivial anxiety rushed through me. All the wines, I noticed, were from "old world" regions–western Europe. So why the anxiety? Reading the labels and picking out the differences requires knowledge …

Larchmont Farmers’ Market Continues to Delight

Larchmont Farmers' Market continues to offer fine fresh foods for the community in the second week of the season.

The Larchmont Farmers' Market was held for the second time this year yesterday, after opening for the season last Saturday. More than 20 vendors, some local and some from as far away as Cooperstown, came to the market to sell their fresh goods at the Larchmont train station parking lot. Several popular returning vendors were there, including Dr. Pickle of Wayne, NJ, and Flourish Baking Company of Scarsdale, both of whom were also at the Mamaroneck Winter Market. The market, however, did have quite a bit beyond the standard fare, offering several meat, cheese, dairy and baked goods vendors, each of which brought something interesting and unique to the market.
