On Wednesday, we introduced you to the new teachers at Mamaroneck High School and Hommocks Middle School. The excitement and nerves of the new educators could be seen in their energy as they convened on Monday afternoon for a new teacher luncheon at the high school cafe. As classes begin next week, these past few days have been a welcoming period for the new faculty members into the community. To make this transition as smooth as possible, the Mamaroneck Union Free School District pairs each new teacher up with a mentor faculty member and also offers a bus tour of Larchmont and Mamaroneck so the educators can become acquainted with the area. With the 2010-2011 school year starting next week, 'new' seems to be a common word floating around Mamaroneck. Over the summer, the Mamaroneck Union Free School District transitioned over to a new Superintendent of schools and hired an interim principal at Mamaroneck High School, while also focusing on renovation work at Hommocks Middle School and the construction of an athletic turf field at the high school campus. On top of all of this, the district is opening the doors of their six schools to welcome in 22 new teachers for the upcoming year.
