Car Club Dedicates 'Road Run' to Sullivan Family

The 200-mile trip is scheduled for Saturday morning.

Members of the car club where Thomas Sullivan served as events director will ride this weekend in memory of him and his family. Originally dubbed the 'Fun Run,' the New York Z Car Club renamed Saturday's rain-or-shine event to the Sullivan Family Memorial Road Run Around the Mighty Hudson River. Proceeds from T-shirts—marking the event will go to Thomas Sullivan, Jr., the lone survivor of the fatal blaze. It destroyed the family's Carmel home, killing the Larchmont police captain, his wife and teenage daughters May 1. Drivers will start the ride in Cortlandt Manor, head southbound to the Bronx and make several stops before wrapping up with lunch in Garrison. Thomas, Jr. and his grandfather are slated to attend. Click here for details on …

Six-Year-Old Wants Your Coffee Money To Donate To Children's Hospital

Brooklyn Benedikt is raising money for the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center; Patch-sponsored Go The Distance walk and family fun day is Sunday.

Gregg and Andrea Benedikt took their two children to the Go The Distance walk and family fun day to raise money for the Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center just as something to do as a family, and something to help out kids in need. About six weeks later, they took Brooklyn, then four-and-a-half-years-old, to the doctor for a checkup because she had strep throat. The doctor found a heart murmur in Brooklyn, and told them to go see a pediatric cardiologist in about a month, once the strep would be clear. They did, and the cardiologist told them Brooklyn had a hole in her heart and would require open heart surgery. “Part of it is you can’t believe it because she’s this healthy and happy child, and you’re like, ‘…

Families Turn To Maria Fareri Children's Hospital For World-Class Care

Hospital celebrates its successes at its biggest fundraiser of the year this Sunday.

The Maria Fareri Children's Hospital at Westchester Medical Center has served more than 100,000 kids since opening eight years ago. The hospital, located in Valhalla, is one of the few tertiary hospitals located in the suburbs, according to Dr. Allen Dozor, associate physician-in-chief and chief of pediatric pulmonology, allergy and sleepmedicine at Maria Fareri. “The Maria Fareri Children's Hospital is a very unusual place,” he said. “We’re a center for the sickest, most difficult patients from around the Hudson Valley, and we get a lot of patients transferred here from community hospitals. We’ll always be packed.” In addition to kids from the Hudson Valley, Dozor said they also see a lot of patients from Fairfield County in Connecticut …

The organization's event will recognize local grant award recipients.

The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound will hold a Mambo and Mojitos gala on Friday, June 10 from 7-9 p.m. at the Larchmont Yacht Club to commemorate the organization’s 60th anniversary. Every year, it donates around $30,000 in grants to worthy non-profits in the Sound Shore communities of New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Harrison, Rye, Rye Brook and Port Chester, but being 60 years old, the organization decided this year to give away $60,000. Based in Larchmont, the Junior League of Westchester on the Sound (JLWS) has been operating the Golden Shoestring, a store located on Larchmont Avenue that sells nearly new donations, since 1950.  The lion’s share of money that the group donates originates from this location. Walking …

Casablanca-Themed Fundraiser Benefits School District

The nostalgia of the 1940s was all around this weekend at an event to raise money in support of the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation.

With guests dressed in elegant gowns and white tuxedos, The Orienta Beach Club was transformed into a 1940's Moroccan nightclub Saturday night. It was all for a Casablanca-themed fundraiser to help raise money for the Mamaroneck Schools Foundation. Keeping with the setting of the film, the evening felt like a night in the upscale Rick's Café Américain, filled with casino games, cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. A silent auction took place with over 200 items up for bid to benefit the foundation. Laura Lavan, a co-chair for the event, acknowledged that this was all made possible due to "the generosity of the community, a lot of business people within the community contributed as well as people whose families utilize the school district". This …
