The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 75 (once Flotilla 73), is the civilian, non-military arm of the Coast…More Guard. Located in Mamaroneck's Harbor Island Park, it patrols the Sound Shore community, from the Bronx line to Connecticut, according to Flotilla Commander, Reed T. Hamel. Its purpose is to help boaters in distress, do safety checks of recreational vessels, and to educate people about boating safety. </p> <p>In addition to its six boat facilities, Flotilla 75 also has an air wing. There are three air facilities that assist the Coast Guard in search and rescue missions, conduct ice patrols of the Hudson River in the winter, and patrol the New York metropolitan area during the boating season.</p> <p>Courses in boating certification, as well as monthly meetings, are held at this location in Harbor Island Park. Thirty-seven members strong, the Coast Guard Auxilary is always looking for new recruits. Anyone interested in joining can contact the flotilla commander at 914-428-3988.</p>

The Department's apparatus consists of a chief's vehicle, a support vehicle, two engines, one tower ladder and a rescue. The swing area is fenced in within the park to better keep track of little ones.</p> <p>While Stanley Avenue Park is situated on busy Fenimore Rd. and has railroad tracks running along the back of it, the whole area is fenced in for safety.</p>

Memorial Park covers approximately 11 acres on Myrtle Boulevard between Maple Street and Baldwin Avenues near Plates…More Restaurant. The park offers a variety of recreational activities, and features four tennis courts and a toddler playground with two jungle gyms, a tire swing and a sand area. The playground, designed for children ages 2 to 5, features a rubberized surface under the jungle gyms for added safety.</p> <p>Under the Murray Avenue Bridge, there are two large blacktop spaces that can be used for skating and scooter riding, or a game of hopscotch or shuffle board. With large expanses of hills and rocks, there are plenty of places to climb and explore, and there are walking paths and benches throughout the park. Restrooms and a handicap-accessible water fountain are also available.</p> <p>On a more serious note, the park gets its name from a prominent war memorial that is dedicated to area residents who lost their lives during both World Wars, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Memorial Day services take place here annually, and there are two benches flanking either side of the memorial wall for solemn contemplation.</p>
