He assigns applicants a float or mooring space, keeps a record of these assignments and issues ramp permits for launching boats. </p> <p>The boating session runs from May 1st through Nov. 1st, but the harbor master's office is open year round. </p> <p>A public launching ramp is available near the entrance to Harbor Island Park, and a pump-out station can be found at each basin.</p>

The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 75 (once Flotilla 73), is the civilian, non-military arm of the Coast…More Guard. Located in Mamaroneck's Harbor Island Park, it patrols the Sound Shore community, from the Bronx line to Connecticut, according to Flotilla Commander, Reed T. Hamel. Its purpose is to help boaters in distress, do safety checks of recreational vessels, and to educate people about boating safety. </p> <p>In addition to its six boat facilities, Flotilla 75 also has an air wing. There are three air facilities that assist the Coast Guard in search and rescue missions, conduct ice patrols of the Hudson River in the winter, and patrol the New York metropolitan area during the boating season.</p> <p>Courses in boating certification, as well as monthly meetings, are held at this location in Harbor Island Park. Thirty-seven members strong, the Coast Guard Auxilary is always looking for new recruits. Anyone interested in joining can contact the flotilla commander at 914-428-3988.</p>
