Town of Mamaroneck Boards, Commissions and Committees

Mamaroneck Town Board

Mamaroneck Town Board is responsible for controlling the legislation, appropriation of moneys and decision making on general local governmental policies. These powers are vested with the board by the New York State law. The board authorizes the annual budget and the taxes required to finance it. It has six members, out of whom one is a supervisor and four council members. The council members are elected for a term of four years and are also appointed by the supervisor as the liaison to various committees, commissions and boards in the town.

The board meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of every month, except in July and August when it is held just once. It can be reached at 914-381-7805. The members of the board include:

Board of Architectural Review

Board of Architectural Review was established in 1990 with the aim to review exterior plans or modifications to all structures within the town, except for family houses. It meets on third Thursday of every month in Town Hall at 8 p.m. The board members are elected for a three-year term. It is chaired by Edward Jacobson and other members of the board are:

Board of Assessment Review

Board of Assessment Review was established under Assessment Improvement Law to hear grievances against assessments, which were previously filed with the town assessor. It meets on third Tuesday of every June or when necessary during the rest of the year in the Town Hall. The Board members are elected for a five-year term. It is chaired by Jaine Elkind Eney and other members of the board are:

Board of Ethics

Board of Ethics was created to establish ethical standards of conduct for all officers, board members and employees of the town under the New York State statute and local law. The board members are elected for a three-year term. It is chaired by Martin Ronan Jr. and other members of the board are:

Coastal Zone Management Commission

Coastal Zone Management Commission was established in 1986 to monitor and coordinate implementation of New York State approved Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP) of Town of Mamaroneck and Village of Larchmont. It meets on fourth Tuesday of every month, except in December, in Town Hall. The board members are elected for a three-year term. It is chaired by Marc Godick and Lorraine Walsh, and other members of the board are:

Housing Authority

Housing Authority was established in 1992 under the Public Housing law of New York State, to provide affordable housing within the Town. The Hommocks Park Apartments were created under this law. The authority has five members elected for a five-year term, and is chaired by Richard Cherry. Other members of the authority are:

Planning Board

Planning Board was established in 1954 to manage all the construction activities within the town. It reviews plans for the development of vacant areas, streets and parks, and ensures that the environment, neighboring properties, traffic and parking is taken into account. It also reviews permits for subdivisions, site plans, freshwater wetlands and special uses.

The board meets on second Wednesday every month at 8:15 p.m. in Town Hall. It consists of seven members, elected for a seven-year term. It is chaired by Marc Rosenbaum. Other members of the board are:

Recreation Commission

Recreation Commission was established in 1954. It reviews and recommends recreation programs activities, and the development or expansion of facilities in Town of Mamaroneck. It has seven members, elected for a seven-year term. The commission meets second Tuesday of every month, except in July and August. It is chaired by James Druker. Zoning Board of Appeals

Zoning Board of Appeals was established in 1920. It is responsible for furnishing the zoning code, and ensures the compliance of the code across all residential properties in the town. It also grants special use permits and variances. The board meets on fourth Wednesday of every month at 7:45 p.m. in the Town Hall. It has five members, elected for a five-year term. It is chaired by Arthur Wexler while the other members of the board are:

Tree Preservation Commission

Tree Preservation Commission maintains an inventory and advises the Town Board in the selection, purchase and planting of trees and shrubs on municipal property. It also creates a management plan to maintain the Town's tree population and issues tree removal permits and recommends any required replacement trees. It consists of the environmental coordinator, the building inspector and the highway superintendent.

Emergency Management Committee

Emergency Management Committee is responsible for the development and maintenance of the town's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan. This plan describes the legal authority and roles of each department before, during and after an emergency. The committee members consist of:

Fire Department
Ambulance District
Highway Department
Building Department
Community Services

Traffic Committee

Traffic Committee was established in 1983 to manage the traffic system in the town. It recommends the board on changes or additions required to the traffic control system, as well as installation of lights, stop signs and parking regulations. The committee is chaired by Doris Block, and it meets on third Tuesday of every month, except in July and August at 8 p.m. in the Town Hall. The committee consists of seven members, elected for a three-year term. Other members of the committee are:

Historic Records Committee

The Historic Records Committee acts as an advisory board to the town on preservation of historic documents. It is chaired by Christina Battalia and other members of the committee are:
