Memorial Park

Flag as Inappropriate

Memorial Park covers approximately 11 acres on Myrtle Boulevard between Maple Street and Baldwin Avenues near Plates Restaurant. The park offers a variety of recreational activities, and features four tennis courts and a toddler playground with two jungle gyms, a tire swing and a sand area. The playground, designed for children ages 2 to 5, features a rubberized surface under the jungle gyms for added safety.

Under the Murray Avenue Bridge, there are two large blacktop spaces that can be used for skating and scooter riding, or a game of hopscotch or shuffle board. With large expanses of hills and rocks, there are plenty of places to climb and explore, and there are walking paths and benches throughout the park. Restrooms and a handicap-accessible water fountain are also available.

On a more serious note, the park gets its name from a prominent war memorial that is dedicated to area residents who lost their lives during both World Wars, the Korean and Vietnam Wars. Memorial Day services take place here annually, and there are two benches flanking either side of the memorial wall for solemn contemplation.
