I've sent all three of my children there over the last several years. I had my doubts about starting an organized school program for them at such a young age (none of them had turned 2 by September), but the teachers are quite skilled at working w/all the different personalities and comfort levels (both parent and toddler). They all separated from mommy much more quickly than I would have thought. The parent participation is a great option for those who choose to do it - you get to see up close (on about a monthly basis) just how nurturing this environment is for children.

Mamaroneck Community Nursery School offers two programs at its Toddler Center that serve very young children, from 18 months to 2 years and 11 months. Playgroup 1 is for children 18 months to 25 months; there are six children in this group, with a head teacher and an assistant teacher. Playgroup 2 is for children 26 months to 35 months of age, and is open to eight students and supervised by a head teacher and an assistant teacher.
What distinguishes these toddler programs from the parent cooperative programs for young 2's and older 2's at MCNS Toddler Center is that parents can pick their schedules, from one to five days a week, and there is no parent participation in the playgroup program at the Toddler Center.
All of the teachers follow The Creative Curriculum, which allows for the play philosophy endorsed by the school.

Mamaroneck Community Nursery School was my son's first school experience at 2 1/2 years old. Many of my mommy friends recommended it and while I trusted their opinions I was still so nervous sending him "off to school." Well... after the first day I knew these women at the toddler center was where he needed to be. Lori was his teacher and I couldn't have been more pleased. His speech doubled within his first month at school. It was amazing to have my "baby" tell me about what he learnt at school that day. While the day is only two and half hours it was a break that I cherished and felt 100% at ease that my son was being loved and taught to through fun! They do things like crafts, play with playdoh, free play, work with a sensory table, painting, story time, singing and dancing.
My younger son now currently attends the toddler center and has Roe and Roseanne as his teachers. These women are so loving and genuinely excited to see my son it just warms my heart. They are always open for questions and any concern they want to know about. When my son was upset the first two weeks when I would leave him he would lean into Roe to comfort him as I walked away. I knew she had control and I knew she would be able to calm him quickly. Now he skips into Mamaroneck community twice a week.

MCNS is my daughter's first school experience and we could not be happier! Her teachers Lori and Sue are wonderful! They do great projects with the kids and focus on socializing and sharing. My daughter loves to go to school and is sad on the days that she does not go. I highly recommend this school.

MCNS is a marvelous and wonderful place for your child to experience "school" for the first time. My son LOVES his teachers--Roe, Kathy and Fern and loves to tell me what he did that day "at school." He is 2 years and 4 months now and is speaking in complete sentences. No more jibberish at all. Of course they do letters and colors and cooking, which my son loves, but I think the most outstanding part of the Toddler Center are the teachers. Their enthusiasm is infectious and you can tell they really love what they are doing. To have my son in such a caring and nurturing environment is a blessing and I would recommend MCNS to anyone and everyone!
