Opened in May 1909, Lawrence Hospital Center in Bronxville now has more than 400 doctors who serve residents throughout Southern Westchester.
The nonprofit community hospital offers a variety of services in a number of different departments, including neurology, rheumatology, geriatric medicine, dermatology, gastroenterology and psychiatry, among others. The hospital became a New York State Stroke Center in 2006. The maternity center—which sees more than 2,000 babies born annually—and nursery have recently undergone renovations.
Services continue to expand, including a Joint Replacement Center and the Center for Obesity Surgery, which is affiliated with Columbia University Medical Center. In February 2010 a new Sleep Center opened; it features four private sleep rooms.
The hospital offers a variety of classes, such as CPR and childbirth, and provides a physician-referral line (914-787-5000), where operators help find the appropriate doctors and nurses.
