8 Things You Might Want to Check Out This Weekend

Here is a selection of activities in and around Larchmont and Mamaroneck this weekend.

1. Plenty of fresh produce and other goodies are still available from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Down to Earth Farmers Market in New Rochelle (North Avenue in front of the high school) and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the New Rochelle Grand Market on Library Green, Lawton and Huguenot streets. And from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in Larchmont is the Down to Earth Farmers Market held at the Metro-North train station.

2. On Saturday, Constitution Park will be transformed into the Larchmont Arts Festival. This free family, which is in its 11th year and takes place across from the Larchmont Public Library on Larchmont Avenue, will have fine arts, crafts, live music and refreshments. The festival will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The rain date is Sunday, Sept. 29.

3. It's trucks, trucks, trucks Saturday in Larchmont. From 10 a.m. to noon in the parking lot behind the Larchmont Public Library, 121 Larchmont Ave., children of all ages can climb on the biggest and coolest trucks provided by the Town of Mamaroneck and Village of Larchmont. Rain will cancel the program, but it will be held drizzle or shine. Registration is not required.

4. Have you seen the new Marine Education Center in at Harbor Island Park in Mamaroneck yet?  If not, come on down this Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon to check out spider crabs, shells, horseshoe crabs and more. It's open every Saturday this month. 

5. At 1 p.m. Saturday, the Westchester FARE Walk for Food Allergies will kick off at New Rochelle's Glen Island Park. FARE Walk for Food Allergy raises money for food allergy research, awareness, advocacy, and education. The Walk will include a DJ, soccer, a ga-ga court, bouncy castle, carnival games, arts and crafts, obstacle course and much more.

6. Sept. 28-29 is the last weekend of the Hudson Valley River Ramble 2013, with activities and events all over the region. Click on the link for more information.

7. Burke Rehabilitation Hospital is once again holding its Wheelchair Games, at at 9 a.m. Saturday, bringing wheelchair athletes to this very special competition. Burke's Wheelchair Games gives those with physical impairments an opportunity to stay fit, enjoy sports, and compete. Burke is now accepting registrations for this event. Burke is also welcoming volunteers to participate in the event as any help for the event is greatly appreciated. For more information please visit the "Community" section of Burke's Web site.

8. The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's® will be held at 9 a.m. Sunday at White Plains High School, 550 North St. It's the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer's care, support and research. Held annually in more than 600 communities nationwide and 5 locations in the Hudson Valley/Rockland/Westchester, NY Chapter region, this event calls on participants of all ages and abilities to reclaim the future for millions.
