New Year's: What's Open & Closed in Larchmont & Mamaroneck

New Year's Day—Wednesday, Jan. 1— is a federal holiday so government offices, including the Larchmont and Mamaroneck village halls and the Mamaroneck town hall will be closed. Major banks will be closed also.

The United States Postal Service Web site said that post offices will not be open New Year's Day. Only Express Mail will be delivered. Retail lobbies will close early Tuesday.

Many businesses will be closing early New Year's Eve—Tuesday, Dec. 31—and will remain closed Wednesday. Check with the businesses by phone to make sure. For example, Stop and Shop will close New Year's Eve at 9 p.m. but will be open regular hours New Year's Day.

If you are looking for a place to eat, be sure to call the restaurant or diner ahead of time.

Movie theaters in the area—including the Bowtie Larchmont Playhouse—that are open can be found here, along with movies being shown. You will probably want to see The Wolf of Wall Street if you are a Leo fan or Saving Mr. Banks if you are a Tom Hanks fan.

The Larchmont Public Library will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. The Mamaroneck Public Library will close at 1 p.m. Tuesday and remain closed Wednesday.
