New Year's Balloon Drop, Closed Schools and Winter Break Activities

Here are some of the things you should know for the week ahead.

• Kids 2 to 8 and their guardians can Ring in the New Year at Noon Tuesday at New Roc City in New Rochelle. The event is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will feature games and other activities along with the big balloon drop at noon. Attendance is limited to 1,200 people so you need to register now for your family's free pass. Go here to fill out the registration form.

• Mamaroneck Union Free District schools are closed for the week. Classes resume January 6.

• For the break from school, the Larchmont Public Library has scheduled some activities. Go to their website for more information.

• Garbage collection and recycling changes this week due to the New Years Day holiday. See this article for details.

• The Mamaroneck Public Library will close at 1 p.m. Tuesday and will be closed all day Wednesday. The Larchmont Public Library will be closed both Tuesday and Wednesday.
