Longer Days, Snow in Forecast and Walking for Health

Here is some of what you should know for the week ahead.

• We all know how it can seem like it's never going to be spring again, especially after the recent spate of bitter winter weather, but take heart. Each day there is a little more daylight. For Monday, the sun will rise at 7:19 a.m. and set at 4:49 p.m. On Tuesday, it will rise at 7:18 a.m. and set at 4:50 p.m. And if we look ahead to next week, on Monday, January 20, the sun will rise at 7:15 a.m. and set at 4:57 p.m.

• The weather for the week is shaping up to be a mixed bag. For Monday, it will be sunny with a high near 49. Rain is in the forecast Monday night into Tuesday, with a chance of rain and snow Wednesday. Thursday will be mostly sunny with a high near 38.

• For the next five Tuesdays, from 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m., you can walk indoors at Central School, 1100 Palmer Ave. in Larchmont. It will be led by Heather Buyers, CPT, a certified Walk Leader for the Leslie Sansone Walk Live Workout and offered by the Larchmont-Mamaroneck Center for Continuing Education. Advance registration is required

• On Wednesday, there will be a free class on Winter Camping Basics at REI Yonkers in the Ridge Hill Shopping Center. You will learn how to plan, stay warm, select winter appropriate gear and what to expect when setting up camp and during your overnight. It starts at 7 p.m. Register here.
