Freezing Temps, Folk Songs and Losing Weight

Here is some of what you need to know for the upcoming week.

• Brace yourselves. After a possible overnight high of 47, temperatures will be falling during the day Monday to a low at night of around 9 degrees. Tuesday's forecast, while mostly sunny, will not see much improvement; the high will only reach near 13. The Sound Shore won't see above freezing temps until Thursday at the earliest.

• The Great American Folk Song tradition will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday at JCC on the Hudson in Tarrytown, 371 South Broadway. The Renard
Active Retirement Lecture Series is open to the entire community. The fee is $5 per person. Here is more information.

• There will be a reception for Jeff Moriber from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday. Moriber's exhibit, LOOK!, is on display in the Oresman Gallery at the Larchmont Public Library now through January 30. The exhibit and reception are free. The library is at 121 Larchmont Ave. in Larchmont.

• Is losing a few pounds one of your New Year's resolutions? There a free introductory session Tuesday at Lawrence Hospital Center. Create Your Weight is a 10-week, multifaceted adult weight management program that is scientifically based. The class is taught by Registered Dietitian Katie Campbell who focuses on the three most important aspects for long term, successful weight loss: education, physical activity and behavior change. Campbell's last class had an average 20 pound weight loss during the 10-week period. The free session is located in the Lobby Conference Room at Lawrence Hospital Center, 55 Palmer Rd. in Bronxville. Details can be found here
