Summer Shell Project at Larchmont Public Library

The activity was one of many the library provided for children during the summer.

The spoils of summer—albeit in sea shell form—were used by Larchmont children Wednesday in a craft activity at the Larchmont Public Library.

Children's Librarian Kim Larsen gave the children some facts about shells and asked where they gathered theirs.

Among the answers were beaches in Aruba, Florida, Nantucket and even Mamaroneck.

After reading Kermit the Hermit to the children, Larsen guided them through their craft project.

They took the shells they collected—and there were more shells on hand, if they didn't bring any—and made a design in a circle that would be transfer to clay.

Larsen said the clay would take about two weeks to dry completely.
