Westchester Flames Lose Lopsided Match to Montreal Impact U23

The Westchester Flames continue to struggle at home this season.

The following recap of the Westchester Flames recent 4-0 loss to the Montreal Impact U23 is from the team:

The Westchester Flames continued their 2014 USL PDL season with a home loss last weekend to the Montreal Impact U23 team by a score of 4-0. Montreal opened the scoring with a goal by Kevin Luarca in the 14th minute. Nazin Belguendouz added to Montreal's lead with goals in the 25th minute and again in the 62nd minute. Frederic Lajoie-Gravelle added Montreal's fourth goal of the night in injury team to cap a dominant performance by the Impact's U23 team, who played their inaugural game in the USL PDL.

The Flames were unable to mount much offense and only had 6 shots compared to 12 for Montreal. While Westchester battled hard throughout the game, they were overmatched by a Montreal team who have been training and playing together for several months prior to the start of the USL PDL season.

A few of the Flames players including: defender Salvatore Borea, midfielder Daniel Taylor, and forward Roger Rizzi, made their USL PDL debuts. Midfielder Evin Nadaner made hisFlames debut, while forwards Kyle Poetzsch and Rilwan Salawu made their 2014 season debuts for the Flames.

Flames coach Gus Skoufis was disappointed with the result and described the performance as, "Unacceptable. We made some simple mistakes that led to a couple of the goals and were outplayed throughout much of the game. We feel that our players are better then what they showed tonight. I know the players believe that as well, but they need to begin showing that in practice this week and in the games we have coming up."

The Westchester Flames continue the 2014 USL PDL season away to the Real Boston Rams on Sunday, May 25 at 7:00 PM. The next home game for the Flames will be versus the Vermont Voltage on Wednesday, June 4 at 7:30 PM at City Park Stadium in New Rochelle, N.Y.
