Raising Funds for New Fields in Larchmont

On Sunday, March 23rd, Larchmont Mamaroneck Fields for Kids and Larchmont Mamaroneck Little League hosted a kick-off event at the Weaver Street Firehouse in Mamaroneck to rally support for new baseball and softball fields at Lorenzen Park in the Village of Larchmont.   

Ever since the renovation of Flint Park several years ago, plans for new fields at Lorenzen have been on the table.  But the DEC sent the Village back to the drawing board a few times to ensure that the plans were environmentally sound.  With approved plans now in hand, the Village has turned fundraising over to Fields for Kids and volunteers from the local Little League.  

At Sunday’s event, Fields for Kids president Jim Hanley presented the Lorenzen Park renovation plans, which include two new baseball/softball diamonds behind the existing field.  “There has been a shortage of baseball fields in Larchmont and Mamaroneck for years, and it’s time to rectify that,” said Hanley.  “With three diamonds, Lorenzen Ball Park is envisioned as a home for Little League in our community.”

He cited the success of other field renovation projects in recent years, most notably at Mamaroneck High School and Flint Park, which were funded in large part by private donations.  “The good news is, we’ve raised half the money for this project already,” he said, “but we need more help to turn these fields of dreams into a reality.”  

Several elected leaders were on hand to lend support and rally volunteers for the fundraising effort ahead.  Hanley thanked Mayor Anne McAndrews of Larchmont for the Village’s continued focus on the project.  He also thanked NY State Assemblyman Steve Otis and NY State Senator George Latimer for their help and guidance in shepherding plans through the DEC’s revision and review process.
