Either way, Deter Jeter announced today that 2014 was going to be his last year playing baseball.
And he did it in true 2014 style—he announced it on social media first, writing to his 2 million Facebook fans.
"Through it all, I've never stopped chasing the next [World Series title]," he wrote. "I want to finally stop the chase and take in the world."
He also gave a heartfelt shoutout to the people of New York. "NY fans always pushed me to be my best."
