Town Camp Needs Big Tent for Summer of '14

The Hommocks Playground Camp won't have indoor space this summer as usual at the ice rink, which will be undergoing renovation.

Some indoor space is needed, for days that are stormy or oppressively hot.

Town recreation officials haven't been able to line up space inside one of the Mamaroneck schools.

So Superintendent of Recreation Jill Fisher will ask the Town Board Feb. 26 for money to rent, erect and maintain a tent on a section of the Hommocks Fields close to the pool and that part of the rink which will be useable.

According to the memo she sent Town Administrator Stephen Altieri, which is in the board's meeting packet, the tent would have lights and air-conditioning.

The total cost is estimated to be $107,550. The recreation department has $20,000 already budgeted and expects to make a profit of $30,000, so would need up to an additional $58,000. Rec officials are looking into ways to lower that amount.

The board starts meeting Wednesday at 5 p.m. in Conference Room A—the summer camp issue is first on that agenda.

At 8 p.m. the board members move to the courtroom for the formal agenda.

The Town Center is at 740 West Boston Post Road.
