Questions About Village of Mamaroneck Drainage Project

A planned drainage improvement project in the Village of Mamaroneck has raised questions from the public.

The hours of construction at the intersection of Boston Post Road and North/South Barry Avenue will be from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m., beginning Monday, August 5 and continuing through Saturday, August 10.

Village Manager Richard Slingerland sent a notice out Thursday to residents and businesses in Mamaroneck explaining some of the issues.

He said the village worked with the state Department of Transportation and it was determined that daytime construction would lead to significant traffic congestion.

"That is why we have the goal of keeping the construction to a five-day time frame as much as possible," Slingerland said, adding that the 7 p.m. start time was recommended by the DOT based on its experience with traffic peaks.

He emphasized that there will not be road closures, but rather lane closures.

"While Boston Post Road will remain open to traffic, due to the lane closures and anticipated traffic congestion, we are recommending everyone avoid this intersection as much as possible," Slingerland said.
