Larchmont Gets Break on Reservoir Tax Bill

Giving Larchmont-Mamaroneck residents a tax break, the Westchester County Board of Legislators August 12 approved an act to exempt the Larchmont Reservoir, saving residents over $48,000 in county taxes.

The property, which is located with in the City of New Rochelle and the Town of Mamaroneck, is owned by the Village of Larchmont.

County Legislator Judy Myers, D-Larchmont, helped push the bill through the Legislature.

"For local municipalities still struggling to deal with tight fiscal budgets, realizing any measure of tax relief is certainly appreciated," she said.

Myers said it was equally important to exempt vital flood control areas from local property taxes.

The Larchmont Reservoir is no longer used as a water source by the village. It was dedicated in 1984 to remain open land to serve the public purpose of flood control and soil conservation.

The City of New Rochelle exempted the land from city property taxes in 1985 and 1994.
