Delivery of 125-ton bridge structural sections for replacement of the Jefferson Avenue Bridge in the Village of Mamaroneck.
In coordination with the NYS Police and the NYS Thruway Authority, the Village of Mamaroneck has been scheduling with our engineers, contractor and the bridge manufacturer for the final stages of delivery and placement of the Jefferson Avenue Bridge structural elements and panel sections.
We have completed that coordination, and have final plans approved for the delivery of the bridge sections.
The bridge sections are extremely heavy at approximately 125 tons (250,000 pounds) each, and will be delivered on heavy-duty tractor trailers that are long enough to accommodate the 80-foot span of the bridge, on trailers that are in excess of 100-feet in length each.
At the times noted above, the deliveries will take place in the afternoons as scheduled. However, the deliveries may be postponed to the mornings after if there are any traffic back-ups, or accidents causing delays en route, or bad weather conditions.
The Village of Mamaroneck is strongly urging residents and business owners to avoid, or be prepared to avoid, Mamaroneck Avenue on Thursday afternoon, Friday afternoon and Monday afternoon, as these are the times when the bridge panels are scheduled to be delivered.
If there is any delay, the Village will issue updated notices via this Village News system.
Parents and schools are strongly encouraged to keep children away during these deliveries to avoid any possible mishaps that may occur on Mamaroneck Avenue or Jefferson Avenue during transit. As a recommendation for those who would like to view the Bridge installation, a safe place to view things would be from Columbus Park off of Mamaroneck Avenue. Since there is limited parking in the area, we recommend you park elsewhere and walk to Columbus Park which is accessible via Mamaroneck Avenue.
