Injury Suspends Boston Post Road/Barry Work in Mamaroneck

Work cannot continue until the state lifts the stop-work order.

An inspector monitoring construction of the Boston Post Road and Barry Avenue drainage improvement project was injured, suspending work until further notice.

Mamaroneck Village Manager Richard Slingerland said the inspector was working for a third party Wednesday night when he was knocked by a piece of heavy machinery into the work area.

Slingerland said the inspector was wearing the required safety gear and construction site helmet. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he was treated and is now being held for monitoring.

Because of the injury, the work was stopped at the site while the village and its consulting engineers, along with the contractor, meet with state Department of Transportation representatives.

The state DOT has jurisdiction over the permit issued for the job, Slingerland said.

When the review has been completed to the state's satisfaction, work will resume.

Slingerland said, as it now stands, there will be no work Thursday during the day or evening or all day Friday.

He said he was hopeful construction could resume Friday night, depending on the review process.
