Beware of Con Ed Imposters in Mamaroneck Village

Village of Mamaroneck officials warn of potential charlatans claiming to be power company employees.

With a significant chunk of Mamaroneck Village residents still without power, a visit from a Con Ed rep is likely welcomed with open arms and not suspicion.

Unfortunately, there appears to be several individuals who may be attempting to exploit resident's vulnerability after Hurricane Sandy in order to extract personal information and gain access to their homes.

"I have received several emails and calls regarding individuals and/or groups alleging to be working for Con Ed and requesting to enter into homes and/or requesting personal information," said an email sent out by Mayor Norm Rosenblum today.

Residents are urged to ask any person claiming to be a Con Ed representative to identify themselves as such and, if they refuse, not to allow them in or answer any questions.

"All Con Ed personnel are required to wear ID picture badges and to show them," said Rosenblum.

If someone appears suspicious, the Village of Mamaroneck police should be contacted right away. Children should be instructed not to answer the door when parents aren't home.
