Aging Mamaroneck Water Pipe to Get Facelift

A resolution to allocated $325K in funds for a water pipe to be repaired was unanimously approved at last week's Town of Mamaroneck board meeting.

The Town of Mamaroneck will contribute $325K toward the rehabilitation of a ancient water pipe that routes water from the Larchmont Reservoir to the Town and Village of Mamaroneck.

The pipe—known as "Shaft 22"—will cost in excess of $1 million to repair, said town officials at last week's board meeting, but the repairs are sorely needed after a major water main break that occurred over the summer.

"The real fact is that a lot of our basic infrastructure in our community is very, very old and water pipes are certainly part of that," said Town Supervisor Nancy Seligson.

The project is slated to begin within the next few weeks.
