How many police officers does it take to deliver a baby?
In the case of a baby boy born yesterday in the Village of Mamaroneck, it takes three.
Officers Tyron Davis, Mark Gatta and Plinio Trujillo arrived at a home on Grand Street at approximately 3:45 p.m. yesterday after residents called 911 to report a woman in labor, said Mamaroneck police.
But there wasn't much time to get the woman to a hospital, said Police Spokesperson Det. Sandra DiRuzza: "Upon assessing the situation, officers determined the baby's arrival was imminent."
And, five minutes later, the baby arrived.
Mamaroneck Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported the mother and child to the hospital for evaluation soon thereafter, where they are still recovering.
According to DiRuzza, all officers learn first aid/first responder techniques as part of their training.
That's wonderful! Would you like to share the baby's name, weight and/or a picture? I'm sure people would love to see it if your sister is comfortable sharing that information. Best, Stefani Kim, Local Editor
