Mamaroneck Resident Is Missing, May Have Jumped From TZB

State police have identified the person who is missing and may have jumped from the Tappen Zee Bridge.

The missing person is Denis S. Lukashkov, 20, from Mamaroneck.

Scuba divers have been searching the Hudson River since Thursday morning for the young man who abandoned his car on the Tappan Zee Bridge early Wednesday morning.

“Without any other evidence—no note, we’ve interviewed his family, no witnesses, nothing in the water—we can’t say for sure until something turns up,” Trooper Jason Jones said from the state police headquarters out of Albany.

When troopers arrived at the bridge Wednesday, they observed a grey Honda Accord with no one around it. There was no note, but the keys were with the vehicle and a driver's license was found on the front seat.

Jones called the case "kind of unusual," in that in similar cases something else often turns up pointing investigators to possible suicide. Here they have nothing but a car.

They launched a recovery operation at the time with aviation and boats on the water but turned up nothing on Wednesday. “We are investigating his personal history—any signs of despondency in any way, and just treating it for now as a missing person,” Jones said.

Police are also mapping the ebb and flow of the river with its tides and calculating where a body might be if and when it may surface.

It’s been exactly a full year since someone died jumping from the Tappan Zee Bridge, a 24-year-old woman from Connecticut who died on September 5, 2013.

Anyone with information that would assist in the investigation should contact State Police Tarrytown at 914-524-0223.
