The Town of Mamaroneck has appointed a person that’s no stranger to local politics to fill the board seat vacated by current Town Supervisor ; Larchmont Trustee Jaine Elkind Eney.
Current Larchmont board members Lorraine Walsh and John Komar extended their thanks to Elkind Eney for her efforts to improve the Larchmont business district, after the announcement at Monday night’s Larchmont board meeting that she would be resigning from her position on the board.
Despite her new appointment, Elkind Eney remained confident that the village and town’s overlap and proximity would mean that she will remain in close contact with her former colleagues.
“Good luck and I’ll forward to seeing you all the time,” she said optimistically.
Elkind Eney, a real estate attorney who's lived in Larchmont for 18 years, became co-chair of the Larchmont Democratic Party in September 2009, and has chaired the Board of Assessment Review (BAR) of the Town of Mamaroneck. She was elected as trustee in 2010 and has served for two terms; in her most recent term, she has served as deputy mayor.
Elkind Eney received a political science degree from Wellesley College and a law degree from Fordham Law School, graduating with honors from both. She has worked at two firms, one in Manhattan and the other in White Plains, over the past two decades.
With an empty seat on the Larchmont board, Mayor Josh Mandell appointed Peter Fanelli, a Larchmont resident who previously ran for the trustee seat on the Republican ticket in 2006. The board adopted the decision unanimously and Fanelli was sworn in to fill the position on a short-term basis until elections in March, when he plans to formally run for trustee.
Mandell also appointed Trustee Komar as Deputy Mayor, which was supported unanimously by the board.
The Larchmont Police Department (PD) promoted four officers as follows:
- Kenneth Olsen was promoted from patrol sergeant to detective sergeant, effective Dec. 21, 2011. Olsen is a 10-year veteran of the Larchmont PD and has a total of 19 years of law enforcement experience.
- Juan Sanchez was promoted to patrol sergeant effective Dec. 21, 2011. Sanchez is an 11-year veteran of the Larchmont PD and has 20 years experience in law enforcement.
