Apartment Bandit Strikes In Larchmont

Several apartments in a building on West Avenue in Larchmont were targeted by a thief last week.

A devious individual acting alone or with accomplices, snuck into an apartment complex on West Avenue in Larchmont on Oct. 12 and made out with stolen property totaling approximately $3,600 from three different residences.

A total of four apartments were reportedly entered last Wednesday according to Larchmont police.  One apartment was entered and ransacked, but no property was reported stolen.  Three other residents reported missing property valued at $1,500, $1,200 and $900.

It is unknown who the burglar was or how he or she gained access to the building.

According to an anonymous tipster, the burglar went from unit to unit in the building knocking on doors to see who was home before breaking into specific apartments.

I find this article to be lacking major MAJOR information about said 6 West Ave apartment. Since I had the "pleasure" of living there for almost 2 years. First off, the place is mostlikely the only slum-apartment in the whole Village of Larchmont. They don't lock the front doors, nor the basement doors. If there is ever any real trouble, the Landlord/Super refuses to answer his buzzer and dismantled his doorbell to his front door. Once the hallways smelled so badly of decomposing body that multiple calls had to be made to the Landlord/Super and then finally the LLC before they realized a dead squirrel was trapped under the elevator for two weeks no less! Another time, 2 apartments were left without toilets for more then 12 hours without access to another bathroom. So, these robberies are not only not a shock but also great time to discuss how badly maintained the building is and how incredibly bad the Landlord/Super is. If you go visit 6 West you'll notice there is only 1 security camera outside and it's facing the Landlord/Super's car, nothing else. It's located in the trees, you'll see it. Once inside, the only camera is located outside the Landlord/Super's apartment so he can see who's at his door. That's it. I hope that since the police enjoy sitting outside the other side of Cornerstone almost every night (yes, everyone in the apartment can see the police car) and that now someone has made it VERY CLEAR how unsafe and uncaring 6 West Ave is something will be done.

If you are so unhappy at 6 West why don't you move
M. Purdy October 21, 2011 at 07:04 PM
i would also like to add that i lived in that buidling for over 10 years. that doorbell has been dismantled since before i moved in. I think you are being extremely unfair and i wonder if you are home all day minding everybody's business. i have never came home or came to visit and found the front door unlocked. The cop sitting there was sitting there for a very good reason. I think you should really move or try and explain why you think you live in such a horrible place and stay
Kristina Goldberg October 21, 2011 at 07:08 PM
CFB-What your comment lacks is knowledge of the entire situation It seems to me you think the super is there 24/7 to cater to the tenants every whim....however what you don’t know is just because he resides there he is "PART TIME" You fail to recognize ALL the details and speak out your rear end. You failed to mention there has not been 1 issue with the super in over 20 years that he has been there (part time)
Kristina Goldberg October 21, 2011 at 07:35 PM
CFB-By the way....If 6 West is so bad, Why do you still illegally park your car in a lot on West St in a spot that is for the stores and that you don't pay for?
JAB October 21, 2011 at 09:19 PM
Funny, there are no signs posted there that say overnight parking is illegal. The stores don't seem to be open overnight so I sincerely doubt its affecting anyone. In fact several residents who live in the area, that don't live @6 West use that lot. Get your facts straight.
JAB October 21, 2011 at 09:48 PM
Lastly, as evidenced by your stalker-esque post, if you are unsure of how that lot works, I'll be glad to explain to you. The owner of the lot told me how it works, so I'll be more than happy to pass on the info.
Kristina Goldberg October 21, 2011 at 09:57 PM
This is great info. Please enlighten all of Larchmont. We can all stop paying for parking JAB says WE can park for free in the lot....wow all Larchmont residents paying for a spot must all be idiots for paying monthly to park. Perhaps you should walk across the street and read the signs. I can't see a lot owner willing to give up the income the lot could generate when the surrounding lots are generating several hundred a month
JAB October 21, 2011 at 10:05 PM
Yes, all of Larchmont could use the lot as long as they were out of there by 7:30am, and not in there before 6pm. I guess it all comes down to how far they're willing to walk. And yes, the Larchmont parking permit system is a joke and is there to generate income. There's only one private lot in the surrounding area, and he's milking the residents of 6 West probably because they either didn't get a town permit, or don't have any other options.

I'm sorry but almost none of these posts have to do with the actual maintaince or security of the 6 West Ave residency, minus the first one which pointed out the errors in the last few years. Instead this just seems to be further proof that the tenants inside the building are not aware of their rights nor of each other's feelings. I would take the fact that the doorbell has been dismantled for TEN YEARS as a major sign of this "part-time" not willing to do his work. I encourage you to look at the placement of the security cameras, as well as the placement of the police car (notice it's either empty outfront of 6 West or it's behind the construction building) and then think about the actual safety of this apartment (near 95, train station, and a part of town that isn't very busy past 11 pm) If this is not enough to convience you the residents of 6 West Ave deserve better than I guess 6 West Ave is the place for you. If it is an issue (which clearly because of the robberies it is) the residents should get together. There's no need to talk about parking (as 6 West doesn't offer parking!). Lastly, it's sad to see 2 people who clearly are aware of 6 West's issues are not trying to come together.
Kristina Goldberg October 21, 2011 at 11:02 PM
CFB-you blame the super for security or lack of it. Its not his job to stand guard. The cameras you speak of are pointed on the entire lot (which we pay to park in) because cars are vandalized. You don't live here anymore. You do not need to worry about the security or maintenance. I have lived in this bldg for more than 20 years and the dead squirrel you speak of never happened. Unlocked doors..nope again. The bldg dosent offer or have 24-7 security. If you wanted it or feel you need it perhaps you should stay out of Larchmont and move to Scarsdale

6 West is a good place minus the classless...
CFB October 21, 2011 at 11:17 PM
So, the parking lot which doesn't belong to 6 West has a security camera? How does that help 6 West at all? It doesn't! Seeng as 6 West offers NO PARKING LOT. So once again, my main topics here are that the building seems to have no security and that the maintence of the building is not the best. I must say thank you to Kristina Goldberg (a proud resident of 6 West) for proving my point about the cameras, it's good to see someone admit the security camera is solely there to protect a different piece of property not maintained by the LLC. Enjoy your evening, seeing as it's Friday. =)
Kristina Goldberg October 21, 2011 at 11:20 PM
Funny you didn't mention the fact that there are 4 other cameras in the buliding paid for and maintained by the super you speak ill of. Of course you don't care about the lot where we pay to park because you park your car illegally ever night (we see you) the maintenance of the buliding has nothing to do with the robberies for all we know it could be some fat unemployed woman with her nasty boyfriend that used to live here haha
CFB October 21, 2011 at 11:26 PM
I have no idea who you are referring and I hope you don't speak this way of other people. I have flagged our comment and will continue to fight for the equality of care of each apartment in this town. I hope you weren't robbed and if you were I'm sorry for that. There's no need for slander. And once again, if parking is your concern. You need to relocate to a building that actual offers parking or go talk to Palmer's Crossing. Now, go enjoy your Friday night.
JAB October 21, 2011 at 11:47 PM
LoL...so 5 cameras, 2 cops there in the middle of the night and the place still gets robbed. Sure glad the fat "unemployed" women and her nasty boyfriend had enough money to leave that dump. How long have you been stuck there? Twenty years? Good job.
Kristina Goldberg October 21, 2011 at 11:54 PM
Love where I live ...never leaving....fat and unemployed and broke .... We were glad to see her go. She probably couldn't get her mommy to foot the bill anymore!
CFB October 22, 2011 at 12:13 AM
Okay, I'm unsure what a past resident and your personal opinion of them has anything to do with the robberies of 6 West. It would appear that you may have had your feelings hurt that someone insulted your "part-time landlord" instead of understanding the goal of the main post was to bring attention to the town that this one particular building has a lot more issues than people realize. Some of them are safety, some of them are maintaince, some of them have to do with the residents inside, and lastly NONE of it as to do with PARKING. May I also add that weight, race, employment, finances have nothing to do with robberies and you need to focus on the issue at hand. Robberies occurred at a location that has now had a resident openly admit on the internet that the camera's are not protecting the actual property of 6 West, but only the car of paying people. Which makes little to no sense because parking is not including. Let's all focus on the main issue here, someone or some people realized how easy it was to get to 6 West (versus 6 East or any of the Chatsworth apartments) and not only went once but three times. This would NEVER occur at apartments listed above, as there is no record of recent crime. It isn't personal on this side, it's trying to improve things that need to be improved. So, stop slandering people and stop admitting the security details of your current residency on the internet. =)
I'm me October 22, 2011 at 11:49 AM
CFB- after reading the comments left on this web site, it is my understanding that your issue is lack of security and lack of maintenance of the above mentioned building. I am not a tenant of the building, but I am a landlord of other dwellings. Security is not in the job description of a super. If the camera/cameras were not installed or maintained by the building's owner, then they can be aimed in any direction the owner choses.
I'm me October 22, 2011 at 11:50 AM
You said that the building does not offer parking. Therefore, the security of the parking lot, which is privately owned, is not the obligation of the super. I'm curious to know how you knew there is a camera high up in a tree? I wouldn't think that would be easily noticeable
I'm me October 22, 2011 at 11:51 AM
Doesn't the owner of the building have their number posted to call for a problem? I know my tenants have my number. I expect my super to keep the side walks shoveled, the hallways clean and the trash put out. They can do minor repairs. I don't expect them to be on call 24/7 and answer their doorbell at 3 in the morning because someone forgot their keys. As for the locked doors. It is very easy to walk into a building when someone is walking out.
I'm me October 22, 2011 at 11:52 AM
They usually even hold the door for you. And there are always people who will buzz you in without even asking who is there. There was a dead squirrel in the elevator shaft? How many buildings do you know of that regularly disrupt their elevator service to clean their elevator shaft? Addressing the toilet issue: how many buildings have a porta potty available while repairs are being made? 6 West is an old building. If you've ever owned a building or a home, there are always repairs to be made. I usually try to make available an empty apartment to be used until the repair is made. Again, I'm curious. If the building is so bad, why did you stay for two years? If the super is not doing his job, why haven't the owner's addressed the situation? Either, he's doing his job, or there have not been many complaints made. I'm wondering if this is just one disgruntled person airing their feelings on this message board.
Kristina Goldberg October 22, 2011 at 12:20 PM
Good morning "I'm Me". You are great..The super of our buliding is fantastic and always willing to help but surely not be taken advantage of by anyone who is irresponsible. Thank you for speaking up!
