An ammonia leak at an ice plant in the Village of Mamaroneck Monday closed down two roads and forced an evacuation, according to Richard Slingerland, village manager.
The accident occurred around 3:30 p.m. at Saxony Ice Company, located at 500 Fenimore Road. Portions of Fenimore Road and Hoyt Avenue are temporarily closed to motorists and pedestrians.
"[The accident] is isolated and not as severe as the last event we had in 2009," Slingerland said in an email.
Village of Mamaroneck police and fire departments responded to the leak, along with the Westchester County Hazmat team.
