Sustainable Playland Disses Rye Mayor Joe Sack

At last night's May 7, 2014 Rye City Council Meeting Rye Mayor Joe Sack tells the community:

"So, I read in the newspaper that SPI has come back to the BOL process. It's not optimum when I'm learning about things by reading the newspaper..."

He goes on to say that the City of Rye has made its position clear and will continue to monitor the situation and take action as needed.

Sustainable Playland Inc. ('SPI') sent a letter to the County Executive's office last Weds., April 30, 2014 - the day before the deadline set by the County Legislators for them to decide whether or not they wanted to end their snit fit over the SPI plan's review/vetting process (it wasn't going so well for them, that "bring facts and answer questions" kind of stuff).

Although they seem to have been happy to communicate with Rye Leadership in the past, (you know, when the pom poms were still out), this time (you know, now that Joe Sack has done the right thing as Mayor and taken some legal action to insist on a review process that will protect the City of Rye) they couldn't be bothered also giving Joe any sort of courtesy 'heads up' that they were sending or had sent  this letter. He had to find out about it in the newspaper....just like the rest of us.

Nice going SPI. Showing respect in all the wrong places (or not at all). Yet again.

If you read that letter and your eyes pop out of your head when you get to the part about how they feel they can now come back to the review table because "The County" has promised to cover their legal fees and essentially indemnify them from all and any current and future law suits (that would be on *our* dime), then read THIS other Patch posting here explaining why that is very likely not legal.

And, btw, the COUNTY didn't agree to that piffle, just, as best anyone can tell, the County Executive. Nobody took a vote on that. The Legislators have remained very quiet on this issue and need to clarify where they stand on it sooner rather than later, but my understanding is many of them are NOT happy about this. Quick everyone, call District 7 Legislator Catherine Parker and see what she has to say...SHE's the one who called herself a "conduit" of communication between the County and Rye.

So, nice going there too, Catherine. Great job. It was really cooperative of you to give Joe a call about that latest development.

SPI and Catherine Parker. Disgraceful as usual.
