Catherine Hayes Fleming of Larchmont, an artist, poet and educator, died at home on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013. She was 87.
After receiving a bachelor's degree from the College of Mount St. Vincent in 1947, she served as an editor at Funk & Wagnalls in Manhattan and then became a teacher and art instructor at Holy Family School in New Rochelle and Sts. John and Paul and St. Augustine in Larchmont.
She was born on Oct. 5, 1925, in Astoria, Queens, the daughter of Patrick J. Hayes and Annie Finnegan. She was a parishioner of St. Augustine Church in Larchmont.
She is survived by her children, Mary Stein, Marykate Ledig and James Fleming, and grandchildren Michael, Daniel, Bryan and Peter Stein and James Krull. She was predeceased by her husband, Edward T. Flemming, and her brother Patrick Hayes Jr.
Calling hours are from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 7, at John J. Fox Funeral Home, Boston Post Road, Larchmont. A funeral mass is set for 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, at St. Augustine Church, Cherry Lane, Larchmont. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, Queens.
