Westchester Dining: Taiim Cellar, a Middle Eastern Wine Bar and Eatery, Opens

Taiim Cellar opens in Scarsdale with a varied wine list, a hummus bar and a menu featuring Middle Eastern vegetarian sandwiches.

Taiim Cellar, a Middle Eastern wine bar and eatery, has opened in Scarsdale.

This is the second Westchester County venture for Hastings on Hudson resident Zamir Iosepovici who introduced Taiim Falafel Shack to Hastings and the Rivertowns community in July, 2010.

Iosepovici decided to open the Hastings eatery after realizing that food he and his wife Kerri routinely prepared at home for themselves and guests could not to be found in the vicinity. Many of their recipes were “home-grown” and fine-tuned in their kitchen.

A number of the wines at Taiim Cellar are available by the glass as well as the bottle. The wine list is composed almost entirely of wine from Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Greece, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. No American wines are shown but a California champagne is available by the glass or bottle. In addition, specialty Middle Eastern infused cocktails and a full array of top-shelf spirits are offered.

Israeli wines represent vineyards from the following regions: Golan Heights, Judean Hills, Samson/coastal plains, and Upper Galilee—the Israeli varieties include brut, cabernet sauvignon, chardonnay, mony gewürztraminer, mony syrah, pinot noir, shiraz and tempranillo. In addition, Lebanon's famed wine region, the Bekka Valley, is represented by the well-regarded Chateau Musar and Chateau Kefraya wineries.

Taiim Cellar’s food selection includes a hummus bar with 12 varieties, Middle Eastern salads, and a variety of vegetarian sandwiches which are accompanied by a side of chopped Israeli salad. These items are priced from $9 to $13.

Israeli chopped salad is a mixture of cucumber, plum tomato, scallions, Kalamata olives, olive oil, lemon juice, sumak (a Middle Eastern spice), salt and pepper.

The desserts are baklava ($6), harissa ($6) and Imagine Candy (Scarsdale’s fine candy store) infused chocolate truffles ($7).

The new eatery/wine bar opened on Jan. 5, 2013 in the space on Boniface Circle in Scarsdale previously occupied by a shoe cobbler.
