At Kitchen 555, a New "Gourmet" Eatery in a Rye Office Building, the Food Served Changes Daily

Executive Chef Ross Goldflam's lunchtime menu changes daily at recently opened Kitchen 555 in Rye. Regular customers find out what will be offered each day by signing up for an early morning e-mail alert from the chef.

A choice of two gourmet entrées (an entrée comes with a starch and a vegetable) is available every day. Even though the menu is in a constant state of change, a previously served entrée rarely reappears. During the eatery's first 40 days of operation, only ten of the 80 gourmet entrées it prepared at lunchtime had been served previously.

An entrée costs less than $10 and is typically priced as follows: chicken dishes ($7.99), pork dishes ($8.99), seafood selections ($8.99) and beef/meat dishes ($9.99).

The eatery is open for breakfast and lunch five days a week and it welcomes anyone interested in stoping by for a meal not just the office employees working in the building.

Typical breakfast fare at Kitchen 555 includes grab-and-go items such as seasonal fruit salad, yogurt parfaits, oatmeal with a variety of toppings and egg dishes.

Instead of having one of the two entrées offered for lunch, customers can:

  • opt for a visit to the self-service salad bar (salads are weighed by the cashier to determine cost)
  • order the special sandwich-of-the-day, typically priced at $7.95
  • have a soup-and-salad combination
  • try a sandwich from the sandwich board or create their own combination sandwich
"All condiments, sauces and salad dressings are house-made from scratch," Chef Goldflam said. The restaurant's home-made beverage list includes lemonade, iced tea and iced coffee.
