Songcatchers Annual Concert for Peace Scheduled for Sunday

The Songcatchers 19th Annual Concert for Peace will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, December 15.

The free event—a goodwill offering is requested—will be performed at the Chapel at the College of New Rochelle, 29 Castle Pl. in New Rochelle.

Organizer Sr. Beth Dowd said it's always a beautiful concert and attendance has grown over the years.

She said there will be Advent songs and carols, followed by a peace litany.

"We asked the children what are your hopes for the world," Dowd said. " 'I wish for help for the poor and homeless.' 'I want the world to be peaceful.' Safe return of our soldiers.' "

She said all the wishes were formulated into a litany to which the audience will respond.

The makeup of the ensemble includes the young people in the Songcatchers after-school program and people who were in it 20 years ago, Dowd said.

"It's diversity at every turn," she said. "It will quite a glorious sound."
