Westchester Boy, 9, Shines in NFL's 'Pass, Punt and Kick' Competition

It's the oldest youth football program in the NFL, dating back to 1961.

A 9-year-old Rye boy may advance to the national leg of the NFL’s oldest youth football program.

Jack McRedmond, a Milton Elementary fourth-grader, won the 2013 NFL Jets Pass, Punt and Kick competition at MetLife Stadium, held before the (forgettable) Jets-Dolphins game—and is now waiting for other young people to finish their own competitions to see if he scored well enough to advance.

A huge football and basketball fan, according to mom Ann Dirksen, Jack likes Peyton Manning and the Broncos “and now Matt Simms with the Jets after meeting him and seeing what a nice guy he is in person.”

According to the Jets’ official website, the competition was established in 1961 and includes more than 3 million kids from July to January.

Jack’s strong showing may earn him a place in January’s final, Dirksen said. In order to get into Sunday’s competition, Jack had to win local and sectional events (held in Rye and the Yorktown).
