Holiday Giving Program in Mamaroneck Taking Donations

A group of human services-minded individuals and organizations are hoping to see all Mamaroneck families, including those in need, receive gift cards through a local safety net program.

The Holiday Donation Program is operated through the Mamaroneck Chamber of Commerce and sees that money is collected and gift cards distributed to local families in need, chamber officials say. The program not only helps those families but supports the village’s local businesses.

Nancy Wasserman, chair of a committee that distributes the gifts purchased from donations, says there is still time to give.

“We are still accepting donations,” Wasserman told Patch in an email. “Hopefully, all those in need will be gifted.”

Recent changes in the social services landscape in Mamaroneck puts needy families at risk of not receiving gifts during the holiday season, said Wasserman, who had worked herself as the first case worker in the 1970s in the village’s Community Action Program or “CAP” center.
