Village of Mamaroneck Summer Concert Series

On Sunday, July 27 listeners will hear the country-rock sounds of Rebecca Haviland and Whiskey Heart. A well-known singer and music teacher in Mamaroneck and around Westchester, Haviland and songwriting partner Chris Anderson take as their motto: “No Artificial Anything.”

Both graduates of SUNY Purchase, Haviland and Anderson are inspired by Tom Waits, Willie Nelson and Warren Zevon, creating a “down-home, all-natural act exploding with heart, soul and guts.” (www.rebeccahaviland.com)

On Sunday, August 3, the series wraps up with the Bensen-Scott Big Band (www.bsbbny.com) re-creating the swinging dance tunes of the big-band era of the 1940s. Leaders Gene Bensen and Regent Scott (both trumpeters) and their players love the sounds of the New York jazz and Latin/jazz scene, including the music of Maynard Ferguson, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie.

Bensen has played with the Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey Bands, Tito Rodriguez, Machito and Lionel Hampton, among others. Scott has performed in numerous big bands in the New York area. The 20 musicians in the Bensen Scott Band hail from Westchester, New York, Connecticut and New Jersey and currently feature one of Mamaroneck's own: drummer Nadav Snir-Zelniker.

Sunday, August 10 is Family Fun Night, sponsored by the Village of Mamaroneck Recreation Department, featuring music from Frank Pisani and Friends, kayak rides, beach volleyball and food.

Rain dates for Summer Nights on the Sound are August 17 and 24.
